Your Definite Major Purpose

How important is having a definite major purpose in life? It’s the most important thing. Everything you become through personal development should lead to your definite major purpose. As important as goals are you still need to have a definite major purpose in your life. This is what drives you. Everything you want to be in your life centers around your purpose.

Teaching people about life change is what gets me going in the morning. It drives me. It keeps me focused on what’s important to me. I spent most of my life with no focus. As much as I thought I knew what I wanted to be I never bothered to work on it. This left me drifting and searching, going nowhere.

Your definite major purpose can be anything you want. But it must be what pushes you. If it doesn’t push you and drive you every day then it isn’t a major purpose. It isn’t what needs to be your focus.

Your purpose can be a number of different things:

·         Career

·         Family

·         Personal

·         Spiritual

All of these can lead you to your definite major purpose. If you want to be a great Dad then your definite major purpose should be that. The only thing is that what you do in life should lead you towards it. What are you doing that helps lead you towards being a great Dad? Do your goals point you in that direction? If you want to be a great Dad then make sure some of your goals are related.

If that is your purpose then make sure what you do each day points you to being a great Dad. Obviously to be the best Dad you can be then you want to be the best person you can be by setting the right example. As the anonymous quote says, “A good example is the best sermon.” Ask yourself if you are a good example for your kids and whether or not your goals take you there.

The goals you set are your foundation. They are the concrete of the house. They allow you to build towards your definite major purpose. If you don’t have a definite major purpose where are your goals leading you? They have to lead you towards something, or they should.

Take the time to find your definite major purpose. Look at your goals and ask yourself one question; where are my goals taking me? What are they helping me reach towards? These questions are important to answer. Really take a hard look to find your purpose. You can figure it out if you take the time to find it. You have to know what that is because otherwise where is your life going?

Aristotle said it best, "First have a definite, clear practical ideal; a goal, an objective. Second, have the necessary means to achieve your ends; wisdom, money, materials, and methods. Third, adjust all your means to that end."

Get focused and start moving towards your purpose today!
